Supply Pressure Effect (SPE): An Overlooked Physical Phenomenon

As gas cylinders deplete from full pressure (e.g., 15 MPa) to low pressure, drift occurs in the regulator's outlet pressure. This phenomenon is defined as the supply pressure effect. Single-stage regulators typically suffer outlet pressure drift ranging from 0.1 MPa to 0.3 MPa. In contrast, dual-stage regulators deliver pressure reduction via two cascaded stages, limiting drift to less than 0.01 MPa.

For most industrial gas applications, fluctuations of 0.1 MPa are negligible. However, for processes involving standard gas preparation, analytical instrument gas supply, laser cutting assist gas, and semiconductor process gases, these seemingly minor fluctuations can completely invalidate the entire process window.
